When I first visited Kiev after the Orange Revolution, legendary nightspot Patipa captured the city’s unique confluenceof Russian decadance and Western hipster style. It’s been going downhill for years, and recently closed, to be replaced by Dante Park’s lavish—yet somehow soulless—club Muzeum.
As a memorium to Patipa, we’re publishing some pictures from my first visit there in 2005. We’ll miss you. You were unique for many things. For first popularizing hip-hop, for the hipster student girls you attracted in droves, and for your multi-kulti vibes. Katya, Ira, Nastya, all those girls we met there won’t be forgotten.
