The hipster fashion week, run by the folks at trendy Top 10 magazine, banged up the Kiev scene this past weekend. Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) is known for its pioneering series of lectures by heavyweights in the international fashion scene, DIY installations by local artists and ‘cool’ shops, and street-fashion sensibilities.
One of the more talked-about shows at this spring’s MBFW was the Gothic collection by Odyn Vovk , a New York-based Gothic fashion label, whose designer has Ukrainian roots. Volk means wolf in Ukrainian and the designer Austin Sherbanenko’s edgy, post-apocalyptic, metal-influenced clothes created quite a stir among Kiev’s increasingly jaded fashionistas.
